Runic Alphabet
The word rune means
secret or mystery.
Each rune has its individual word, properties and esoteric meanings.
Runic alphabets came from German tribes yet some rune symbols are likely
to come from other alphabets such as Etruscan and Greek.
The Germanic rune alphabet otherwise known as elder futhark contains 24
runes and is thought to be the eldest version of the runic alphabet. The
first 6 runes of the alphabet spell out the word futhark.
As runes moved to Scandinavia they became only 16 runes; then in the 5th
century Germanic tribes, Saxons, angles and jutes (collectively known as
the Anglo Saxons) invaded Britain bringing runes with them and the
symbols were altered and 9 runes were added.
