Introduction To Runes
Runes have been
used from about 100 BC throughout Europe, Iceland and the British isles
and are still used today.
People use runes in order to gain advice; it is possible that tarot
cards may have been derived from runes.
Rune readings hint towards answers but you have to figure out the
details.
Runes can’t see the future but they can outline a path, the future is
not set and changes with everything one does.
Very few people study runes in depth even though the use of runes has
been growing strong from the 1980’s.
Most people who use runes do not know the true history, culture or deep
religious meaning to them. This upsets people of the northern
traditions; just as Native Americans get upset by new age people
practicing herbal medicine without knowing what they are doing. Yet with
the correct knowledge and respect the rewards are great.
As Christianity grew they tried to get rid of runes and by the 1600’s
runes were nearly non-existent in everyone’s minds. A law in Iceland was
passed meaning that anyone who was found to have possession of runes was
burned.
Along with some old English texts that were found was a 24 verse poem; a
verse for every rune; this meant that rune stones could slowly be pieced
back together.
