Distance of 6 inch between Sun and Moon is termed as Karna. When the Nirayana longitude of the Moon gains 6 degree on that of Sun, then One Karana will be completed. Tithi is divided into 2 halves. First halves of the tithie is known as Purvadha and second halves is termed as Uttarardha. Purvadha ends at the middle of the tithie and the second halves of tithie starts with the middle and it extends  to the end. 7 Karnas are Bava, Balara, Kaulava, Thital, Gara, Vanija, and Vist.
